Project summary

The Bamako Urban Resilience Project (PRUBA), launched in April 2019, is an initiative of the Government of Mali, supported by the World Bank. Its objective is to improve the provision of urban services (waste management, sanitation, and drinking water) and to continuously strengthen decentralization in the district of Bamako and targeted neighboring municipalities. PRUBA aims to address the challenges that the population of Bamako has faced for years and is intended to improve living conditions, reduce flood risks, and promote the sustainable development of the capital.

The main objective of the study is to promote the integration of nature-based solutions (NBS) into PRUBA projects to contribute to Bamako's resilience to the effects of climate change. To achieve this, the study aims to identify and present operational NBS that can address climate change-related challenges, particularly those posed by urban heat islands and flooding in the project area. Whenever possible, priority is given to NBS that contribute to socio-economic development and the improvement of quality of life in the city.

Tasks carried out by Ecoresil

Identification of the most relevant NBS to address urban challenges

Assessment of the costs, benefits, and co-benefits of the NBS

Prioritization of NBS opportunities through spatialized multi-criteria and cost-benefit analyses

Development of an interactive dashboard for results visualization (via Power BI)
