Project summary

The objective of the study is to integrate Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into the redevelopment programs of urban brownfields, with the aim of enhancing the climate resilience of new neighborhoods, promoting biodiversity, and maximizing the quality of life for future residents.

Guidance on the selection and design of NBS is based on in-depth assessments of the interrelations between urban issues, climate risks, site biodiversity, the pursuit of ecosystem services, and ultimately the performance and feasibility of NBS implementation.

The study team is also developing an approach and knowledge-sharing resources to disseminate best practices in defining and integrating NBS within urban developments.

Tasks carried out by Ecoresil

Building of a relational database linking urban issues, desired ecosystem services, and NBS

Development of a series of screening and multicriteria analyses to select the most suitable NBS

Evaluation of the direct and indirect costs and benefits of NBS

Development of a monitoring tool for NBS performance
